Team Roles

At Candy Racing, everyone plays a role—on and off the road. From elite performers to pacers, alumni to organisers, this is a team built on shared commitment and collective ambition.

Elite Pathway Athletes

Our Elite Pathway Athletes receive year-round support as they pursue excellence. We provide; Free coaching, UK Athletics Membership; preferential access to Candy merch and training camps. We aspire to offer financial support in the future.

Current Qualifying Standards

  • Women: 2:50 marathon / 1:20 half

  • Men: 2:28 marathon / 1:10 half

Current Elite Pathway Athletes: Carrie Williams, Julia Bijl, Molly Flood, Hattie Freeman, Gabby Tofig, Matt Wood, Dale Seddon

Gregario Athletes

Inspired by the selfless domestiques of pro cycling, our Gregarios are male athletes who serve as pacers, partners, and day-to-day training support for the Elite Pathway women. While they may not always be front and centre, their work is foundational to team success.

Gregarios receive year-round coaching and typically train for marathon times of 2:50 or faster. They are geographically based near our elite pathway women.

Current Gregarios: Pete Mayhew, Alec Parcell, Chris Akinrele, Sam Macnamara, Andy Elks, Theo Rivierre.

Cohort Athletes

We run two main training cohorts each year: Spring and Fall. Athletes register for each cohort separately and complete a performance-focused training block together. UK Athletics Membership provided after one full cohort

Alumni Athletes

Our Alumni are runners who have completed at least one full Candy cohort. Many are still active. Some take breaks. Others take their experience into new teams. But they remain part of the wider Candy community.

"Once you’ve trained with us, you’re always part of the team."

Organisation Roles

Even in a high-performing squad, someone’s got to keep the wheels turning. These team members lead with integrity and fairness:

  • Head Coach: Andy Elks

  • El Padre (Chairperson): Chris Akinrele

  • Lead Welfare Officer: Carrie Williams

  • Treasurer: Pete Mayhew
